What it does
Beacon runs a small menu bar app on your Mac that hosts your Claude Code
session in a tmux session. Pair your iPhone once by scanning a
QR code, and you can read and drive that exact session from your phone —
over cellular, from anywhere. Walk back to your desk and the same session is
still there in your terminal.
Install
- Download and open the disk image, then drag Beacon into Applications.
- Launch it. A bolt icon appears in your menu bar — there's no Dock icon.
- Click the bolt → Pair a Phone… and scan the QR with the Beacon iPhone app.
Everything is bundled: the app ships with its own
tmux and daemon, so nothing needs to be installed first.
Launch at Login is on by default so your machine stays reachable.
How it stays private
- Traffic between phone and Mac is end-to-end encrypted (X25519 + ChaCha20-Poly1305).
- The relay that connects them routes encrypted bytes only — it holds no keys and cannot read your session.
- Pairing is a one-time QR scan; the code expires after 10 minutes and is single use.
- Only phones you have explicitly paired can connect to your machine.
